Brazil now takes the first place among the sugar cane producers (684,77 million ton of sugar cane should be collected in 2016-2017, one ton of sugar cane equals 138 kg of sugar or 72 litre of bioethanol). The South American giant does not only expands its planting, but also uses it in a different way: produces bioethanol – fuel for automobiles and aircrafts. Thus food industry now has one another development vector – bioethanol production.

Let’s move on to the production of bioethanol, refined from sugar cane. Brazilian experience in usage of renewable energy sources has long attracted other countries. Already today Brazilian automobiles, that use «flex» system, which are very popular now, may work on either clean gasoline or ethanol or any variations of these fuels. The possibility to invent aviation engine that work on ethanol. For example, Brazilian company Embraer invented a plane that works on clean ethanol, which has later become a market leader among agricultural aircrafts in Brazil (75% of sells).

Brazil takes the second place (after the USA) in production and export of ethanol – denatured alcohol, which is produced as a result of sugar cane refining. 85% of the produced ethanol (50% of sugar cane harvest) is consumed in the country.

Production of renewable energy sources, based on sugar cane and castor oil is very profitable for Brazil. There are only few other countries that have such favourable combination of climate and soil. Moreover, ethanol, produced from sugar cane is cheaper: it requires much less agricultural area and labour sources, than ethanol, produced from other crops.

Positive aspects of biodiesel production from sugar cane:

  • According to economists, export of ethanol and biodiesel, know-how sales and the expected investments and credits flow may bring additional funds for fight with hunger, poverty and illnesses. They will finance the possible decrease in food crops.
  • According to the ecologists, without the ethanol programme, Brazil would have consumed twice as much gasoline and diesel fuel than now. According to UN experts, the process of ethanol production from cone harms nature much less than ethanol production from corn. Thus million litre of this product, exported by Brazil, helps the mankind to get rid of 2,82 million ton of dangerous gases in the atmosphere.
